Q: Why should I put driftwood in my aquarium?
A: Natural driftwood is required by fresh water aquariums for optimal function and beauty. Water quality is enhanced by driftwood, creating a natural, suitable habitat for ornamental plants and fresh water fish. Driftwood is also used by fish for hiding and it reduces the amount of injuries to the fish when there is fighting between them. When an aquarium lacks natural plants, driftwood tends to enhance the amount of oxygen that is used as well as providing a slightly acidic environment that is essential to fresh water fish. It is also used a as a natural way to lower the pH levels.
